September's SWAG

The Character Trait for September is RESPECT 
 
TVCS students will be introduced and taught the following social skills this month:
 
Week 1-2: Getting the Teacher's Attention
Week 3-4: Disagreeing Appropriately
 
Parents can practice and/or review these skills with their child at home and in the community. Here are the steps to:
 
Getting the Teacher's Attention
1) Look at the teacher.
2) Raise your hand calmly.
3) Wait to be acknowledge by the teachers.
4) Ask questions or make requests in a calm voice.

Disagreeing Appropriately 
1) Looking at the person. 
2) Use a pleasant voice.
3) Say "I understand how you feel"
4) Tell why you feel differently.
5) Give a reason.
6) Listen to the other person.

When your child demonstrates the appropriate social skill to get the teacher's attention and disagree appropriately, he/she is demonstrating respectful behaviors. Reward your child with positive praise (i.e. "good job", pat on the back, thumbs-up, etc.) when he/she demonstrates the skill.
