slow thank you for coming a quick reminder we are recording this meeting for any parents can't join us that's not a surprise that you see everybody thank you for coming everyone's music for now. unmute yourself if that doesn't work send me a message because I had to fix it for the kids this afternoon during the test all right let me try to figure out why it's not letting you unmute yourself fix the whole purpose here I'm starting a persols is anyone else having trouble in meeting also so that should work but apparently not I was just trying to unmute you all let's do that here we go let's see if I can turn back time Australia facts welcome nobody is going to see you again we had told the kids earlier today they're welcome to join welcome to have them obviously join as well we're having a great time getting to know them this is a fantastic group please text message fisher maybe about another minute or two and then we'll go ahead and get some one more minute and at the smallest this afternoon we're hoping it kind of takes shape as we go almost as we're figuring out the needs and the amount of time to give her questions and answers are basic outline for the next half-hour is mr. Landry and I thought that we would kind of recap hopefully keeping at it about you know 5 to 7 minutes or so each of us and then opening it out for any questions or comments or concerns the as you learn to back to school night I could talk to the next hour so I'll keep it short and sweet. Hopefully it's not information overload but more of just a quick recap of the week and then will mostly try to time for some questions comments I really appreciate your emails this week is kind of the only way we're able to feel like we understand what's happening on the other side of the screen oftentimes things look great from our ends and any concerns that you have or anything that's important for us to know that's happening on the other side we love to love to hear about we're getting to really enjoy getting to know your kids and your past and it's been a it's been a fun week it's been a long week but I hopefully they all feel very accomplished that we made it through our first week save us a story named our class fish back there one of the fishes name they name the Tycho and the other class named their fish Phillips I can't tell you any reasons why but those are the names that they voted on so we have a Philip in a Tico sounds good to me all right mr. laundry did you want to go first I don't mind I can go ahead and start most let me make sure that I'm not leaving anybody waiting just got always from the person come again I'm sorry all right just a reminder we are recording this so if we're going too fast or too slow you can always check it later for anything you can always e-mail us questions I was mostly just going to go to Google classroom and kind of show off what that looks like that is where most of the kids are getting most of their were there were fewer it was my suggestion to put the classes together this year and I know that that's making the stream a little bit cluttered if you ever feel that you or your students are having difficulties getting their assignments or you're not sure what they need to get done clicking over to the classwork Tab and make that a little bit easier on the classwork tab everything should be organized neatly according to subject any just announcements links to zoom meetings things like that don't appear on here so this should be a little bit easier hopefully to look at I start class resources at the top including the updated students schedule a link for students to things like that there's also if anyone is curious the video class meetings I've been posting mine in a folder that can be accessed here mrs. Fisher I need to check in with you and then we'll see if combining but if you rather the kids need to check anything if they've missed this is how they can access those videos most of these you can notice are marked as have a little book bark looks like a book with a bookmark that just means they're mature it's not actually an assignment it was nothing that they needed to do this one's a little different it's got a clipboard it has little lines here that usually means that this is an assignment now this particular assignment was different because the students would coming up with their own classroom rules we did this towards the end of last week early this week students thought about when were online what does it mean to be responsible to be respectful to be safe we talked about some of the not leaving back in your chair but also the importance of being safe online information never show your password don't talk to people about your age since like that should never be coming into contact with strangers during our online school day anyway but I thought it was a good opportunity to get excuse to discuss some of those things so all of that is here getting to the assignments themselves again your C a lot of information like last code for news Ela instructions for no red ink please have a little bookmark coming out of a book because they're informational there for reference these that have the clipboard that's what you're watching for assignments I was a little inconsistent earlier in the week as far as putting specific do times I would give you a due date but not at I'm going to try to be better about that to make it more clear to the kids and to all of you what the kids need to have done in Taiwan for Massey spend some time reviewing place value this is something that they've been working on for years or just in 5th grade expanding it the numbers are getting a little bit longer we're going further into decimals to the thousandths place loss of stretch out to the million we might play with the billions a little bit so that is mostly what they been doing in Mass in case it's been confusing as far as my expectation for math it's been uneven this week but once we finally get into a routine students they will have two major things that they need to do they're going to have extra math practice they just login to clever they practice for 7 or 8 minutes just to make sure that their basic facts are strong online flashcards if you haven't had a chance to watch it have them show you what that looks like they do that every single day Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday again this week has been uneven but I'm hoping starting next week Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday they will have a video. watch the video sorry this is a different one it's an actual video where is my homework Azad I will try to figure out why those aren't showing up on this page because there should yeah that's not right okay I'll get to the bottom of that because they should have video links up here not just for the class work but for their homework as well they watch a video take a note and then they show me the notes when I get to class social studies I'll wrap up really quickly so mrs. Fisher can have her turn cuz I'm probably over my 5 minutes social studies every week early in the week you're going to see a newspaper this is a copy of the physical paper that students should have received if they've been in the classroom it comes up a little small don't like the way that it condenses the second and third page but it's here student reference we will not read the entire thing on a Monday will read it piece-by-piece we go through nice and slow together talking about Big Ideas asking and answering questions later in the week I will post the sly show that we use during class discussions hopefully you'll notice some of these pictures are the same this is the exact same information from newspaper I just chopped it up so we could take a piece by piece students can use either or both of the close every Friday when they take a quiz on that material in addition to having those things that we look at across the entire week every day Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday they should get a question and you can ? this little question this little question is again based on part of the reading sometimes we do in class sometimes I have them read it on their own whatever the question is asking I will always attach an image of the articles that they need to focus on I can't this is cut from the entire newspaper this is cut from what I showed you a moment ago in a slideshow and assignment help zero them in on what I need that is the routine that I'm hoping to get into both for Math and social studies to see some consistency where they know every day what homework do they expect what class work looks like I'll next class look up a bit more but the independent if I keep calling homework I'm going to try to make as consistent as possible I imagine they're probably some questions as far as that goes Miss Fisher do you want to take math and social studies questions now or should we wait till the very end you can take math and social studies questions now and then will change gears can I help anybody with anything you should hopefully be able to unmute yourself it's not working send me a chat message and I'll try to fix it I see we've got a question there about no you for permission so I thought I did so I'm glad you let me share my screen and I'll give you a peek into what are weak like this week and kind of try to generalize as to what it's going to look 6th grade ELA and reading is that in 5th grade and Beyond there is more writing that is combined into Ela it used to be that reading was considered literacy and then language starts was the aspect of grammar and sentence diagram and more writing can you put CLA together you've got both reading and Grammar and Writing kind of all all in one place that's exciting for me because those are all my very favorite things to do however doing it remotely online is creating a need to access different types of website I wish it was all in one place but it's not so this week as I explained to students we kind of looked at it as we were packing up the train we were packing up everything that we need in order to leave the station in the order to to start our our travel so this week my goal was that students were able to we started some academics because it's just simply fun to get those summer cobwebs dust it off and I had some fun activities for them to do as well as we spent a lot of time troubleshooting and problem-solving and getting the kids it's a different website I wanted to let you know this week at 2:15 I hosted a zoom zoom call for students to hop on where they could share their screen so we weren't spending too much class time solving individual problem so hopefully a lot of them took advantage of that I still see quite a few kids not connected to these website so when we're done with the formal discussion today if anybody wants to I can help the kids get connected as well but each day during Ela the kids come in and we start in the classroom I'm not going to go through obviously all the slides with you because that would song but what I do want to point out to you as a couple things this is the basis kind of the hopefully the visual for ELA everyday and why this is important I post these everyday they're not only helpful students to have a visual when I'm talking but it breaks down what they need to write down as far as note but if there if you ever get that Mom I'm bored saying my my flies will always call blanks over here on our bookshelf to different read aloud so as we get kids if it's the only thing I could come up with that would give them the opportunity to kind of browse a book shelf these are all most of them are YouTube videos that are somebody reading but I haven't washed all of them to make sure that they're appropriate they're just read aloud short read-alouds anything for example like Stone Fox that has multiple chapters listen to you'll just have to keep clicking the link so I'm trying to get the kids exposed to books as if we were in class but this questis slideshow will be posted every night for you to jump on if you're interested to see what we hday the other thing I wanted to mention Mitchell Andre did a thorough job of explaining Google classroom and for now our to-do list this week because again we're still packing the train our to-do list has been listed in the Google flights and I've gone over it with the kids until what they needed to do starting on Monday when these are actual assignment they will be posted in Google Classroom even though there's nothing to actually do on Google classroom with it it gives you and students that one stop place to go to look to see what it what do I have to do and what when is it due so I'm hoping that streamlines everything but just so you know I do go over it with them each day in class what their independent work time is ideally to be used for that's all I wanted to share about Ela again the Google Classroom is to be your point of organization for next Tuesday I wanted to let everybody know that we're going to do a pick up at school I I tried to choose the time maybe if anybody was at work that they would be able to be home and then come by we're going to do it drive-thru style so you'll all be in the loop you're you're going to come by the kids are welcome to come by and I'll just hand you what you need the reason we're doing this a little bit after school starts primarily as we at first had the intention of using a a different curriculum and for the whole school when that sell three we kind of had to come up with Plan B so I have the plan B things for you as well as there are first novel for book my first novel study so I have a few extra surprises I have a bad axle assembly activities for science so I look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday night at 6 if for some reason you can't make it at that time I'm guessing I'll be there for at least 30 45 minutes if that doesn't work for you I will leave a sack with you students name on it in the office and you're welcome to pick it up anytime I have purposely planned on not implementing any of those items for a full week after that so you don't need to drop everything and get to school if your schedule is busy so just a night I will be there passing it out but if you can't get there then and you need a few days not a problem I've got next week's plans without any of these physical resources that I'm going to be handing out other thing about science is we're meeting with miss Lynn once a week and any supplies that students need I'm so excited to share that we got approval from the administration today that we have a small budget as I will be offering these materials to students that's Lynn and I are working on the best way to get them available to you where you're not coming by school too often hopefully we can get them together them to you nothing as complicated nothing is meant to be stressful I hope all of these will be fun activities to extend our science curriculum so I'm hoping that that's not too much information and it sounds exciting and not overwhelming I wanted to point out one last thing and then we'll open it up to questions each Monday Mister laundry and I post our Weekly Newsletter and on the newsletter it's something we've ever seen that we've done for years and it's on our website for now will be emailing it to parents as well but on Monday night and we post a newsletter and it kind of lays out what are curriculum and learning goals of the week are and its shares any tdcs news or 5th grade news it shares upcoming test date so if you have a printer and it's handy and easy to print that out. be a good idea otherwise if you get into the routine of checking it out with your student in everybody's kind of on the same page will be obviously sharing it with the class when we meet but hopefully it's communication to you as what to expect in our week and then by Friday's rewind that we're doing now is a time to kind of reflecting go backwards so we're offering you a glimpse at the beginning and the newsletter format and then on Friday are Zoom calls so hopefully you feel connected and and able to answer any question we can answer any questions that you might have mrs. Aldo had a question about quizzes and hopefully they figure out how to get people able to thank you I have a question so that the social studies quiz will be after your last game with them every Friday that's what I'm planning as of right now usually love to see that during social studies at 1:30 I was trying to give the kids a little extra prep time so they would feel better on the test its something like a look at certain way I was from 1:30 to I was still in Zoom anyway with students who wanted extra assistance on the test so I will look into that a tremendous amount of time right now cuz I I haven't talked to you personally but I've talked to a lot of other teacher friends and I know that the hours you guys are putting in so is tremendous and so I thank you for that I did want to just asked if if there's any way that the calendar can be utilized a little bit more for those due dates I know you're putting so much time and I know that's an extra set for you I'm just kind of wondering if that's a place that that's a place where I can go pretty easy two kinds of Skin & Co wait what to do cuz even in class work screwing through that gets a little overwhelming sometimes but again if that's not possible I'm not I'm not trying to criticize or anything it's just it's just something kind of finding them understand I'm sorry and please tell me if I'm not understanding your question properly you're asking about the calendar through Google Classroom correct at least my understanding was I'm going to set automatically anyway please let me know thank you for being on top if it's not showing up let me know and I'll give you the sun features she ate your suggestions please make a suggestion as much as we are trying to cover everything again it's hard know what it looks like and what's going to be easiest for you it's a whole nother component to make sure that we're communicating as clearly to you as we are with his students so absolutely please always feel free to pick up and give us suggestions we're happy to you know Implement anything that's going to make it easier for sure thank you I'm sorry to have a question regarding the ELA just to clarify you're doing the slides with the students during gym time on Ela ideally it should take them about 45 minutes when break down the minutes that we have to adhere to the state-mandated minutes that's your laundry and I broke down independent work and zoom time so you can anticipate or plan for 30 to 45 minutes of independent work time now that's going to vary it's going to vary based on the week the day and I'm the student please know that we're also working on trying to incorporate some time to get everybody started as well so it won't always be a hundred percent it would be wonderful to get them started and zoom to make sure that they're all off on the same you know off on the right foot what. Independent work time will consist of I wish would be one easy answer one easy website but because we're not using a big curriculum program we have to access different website so the different websites that will be using our I feel that they've covered everything we need to cover their just not all in one place so that's what I'll make sure that I will clearly posted in Google Classroom as well on our to-do list on Google Slides you can plan on when we start our novel study to break it down the way I've broken it down will be about half novel study for our curriculum and the other half will be those other websites we use wonders as a Ela curriculum and then there's some others like new zla non-fiction you don't need to worry about all these but no red ink is for grammar. I wish it was simpler I wish there was just one website but a tackle everything we need to tackle in fortune I need to access have them be accessing different website but it runs on the list can you know know that we're in this together and these these next few weeks now while it's helpful for you to make sure that they're doing it will also be communicating to the kids nobody's going to fail fifth grade because these first two weeks there's better late or there's bumps in the road will be following up with them and communicating with you as well if we start seeing a pattern of them not completing their work so know that whirl it's not all on you to make sure they do it will be with you and letting you know what we're seeing on this end to I hope that helps a little okay cuz I've kind of between the two kids like with my first grader there's like The To Do List on the side of the screen can go on Des diamonds when they're like the extra websites that they have to go to is there like a cheater way for us parents to know that they Cheetos website without going to that website to make sure what they're supposed to do like or is there a way that I love my son to Pieces but he's not always the trustworthy like a cheater way to like they did the off-site  without that's a really as a great question and I'll be honest I don't know the answer because I've never had to consider having parents interact with I'm such a regular basis but I will find that out for you I can tell you that in Google Classroom the these extra websites are listed in the materials section and you would be able log on to them just like your kids can and it's without giving you a tutorial on where and how to find what they've done for example news Ela would be probably one of the easiest to log in and and be able to see what they read and written because of the way their website is laid out it would be user-friendly once you learn how to use it for the others may not be as obvious for you to do it quick check to see if he did it my goal is to update aluminum illuminate regularly enough that if you were to log on to illuminate which is our grading website you would start seeing sing assignment and I guess my initial thought would be that that would probably be the most easiest way and quickest way for you to see if he's on top of what he needs to be on We also sometime in and works on has a tracking sheet that we can track what students are doing and if there's any kind of pattern even starting at day two of them not doing logging in and getting the work done you'll receive an email from play that takes a little bit of the pressure off of you but certainly it anytime I'd be glad to walk you through those websites to show you how to see what work he's done the answer you were looking for but I hope that that will help a little bit yeah it would be very nice if there was some kind of just check Lister Spotlight or something that would pop up and say so and so did this so and so did that so but unfortunately we're finding your finding much of this is relying on the kids to remember and self-report even with extra mass I'm asking them to go and I'm putting it in his assignment every single day I'm asking them to come in town yes I've done it I will double check it later but mrs. Bishop said that requires logging into the system going through the whole thing and I know that's not what a lot of you were looking for right now and all these websites probably not very enticing if we can find a better way will definitely share it with you but for right now we're just exactly were monitoring as best we can over to get back to you as best we can but if we're going to get them the material they need and the General the work they need this is the best way to finance do it right now I know that we going to be using the website back to the different subjects interim secret killing me so much even if they don't line questions I would prefer that I would prefer that they have a physical workbook what you're asking I would like them to have the physical map book unfortunately physical last book I don't believe was ordered because we were promised A system that does not do what it do so or does not do what it was promised I should say so we are looking into ordering math textbooks we are looking into ordering a belief both social studies and science please weekly newspapers those things to the best of my knowledge will not be available to you on Tuesday I wish they were math and social studies both I am trying to I have digital copies of all of those things the physical everything I'm using so far for the kids with the exception of extra math is basically copy paste it directly from that so that I'm hoping the transition will be smooth but I'm using lost Lost Eras up. you exactly remember Eureka Math is what were using for math so the same the same kinds of green workbooks I think the mr. Hansen probably had an Studies Weekly gun the newspaper for social studies you just knock that is my hope guess same with grammar for sure I know for science one of my very favorite things are using colored pencils I find so much value in the kids physically getting to create and draw and illustrate and label so we'll be doing a lot of but at the same time I want to make sure that there's not any printing requirements for them to be able to participate so we're working on trying to find create that right now until we can get something physical thank you yeah that's I certainly learned the same the kids and I talked about that we missed that just a pencil and you know diagramming and writing and all of that stuff so we don't we talk. replace all of that with computer work now I'm sorry just very quickly another probably other questions but mrs. Fisher a few of our parents have asked about no red ink fair to everyone and I'll share again D-Link to get directly to it for some of them that's not working is there something else you can remind me that I'm forgetting here I'm at Bud the way that no I think it's set up is that they in bed the teachers code so to speak in the link so and unfortunately again it's nothing that they can go through clever to access so if click on that link it should then and when I've had the kids share their spring with me we've been able to problem-solve so again after the meeting if anybody wants to stay on we can share you can share your green if you're able and I can walk you through it but it should allow you to just using that link connect you connect them to me and then it's going to ask you to sign up sign up is nothing more than logging in with Google and asking you then personal question and when I say personal questions it's going to ask things like what are your favorite kinds of pet stores do animals or superheroes and it's asking you those questions because it'll then generate any of your this is again for grammar any of your sentences or passages relevant to what you enjoy so it'll actually insert your pet's name and friends name to try to really individualized but work that's being given so those that should be all that is necessary so if when you click that link you're not getting that auction of login with Google if I can you're able to stay on afterwards and share your screen I can help problem-solve what's going on or I will try to help problem solve so far we've gotten everybody in that we've done I know that was a specific enough answer it's hard sometimes without seeing what are you're coming up with just a moment I'm going to everybody to me the locked so if anyone else has any questions is there anything else that we can help you with anything else we can clarify no I just wanted to say I love no ready I got in it's a really really really and my little my little of it and he he was like my name and his name is, and it also it was really fun to see his name in it so it's good now you're welcome mr. laundry and I found last year on a fifth grade website that we were are part of them we had just as much fun personalizing ours and seeing the kind of work it was generating because it is as hip and cool as we think we are this really me all about them so even better than S Creed in a creek elem it's supposedly very personalized so I'm glad I don't think I saw on the surface and I'll tell them that question about the four Miss Fisher when you post your do meetings during the day or are you posting them in the beginning of the day or just a couple minutes before well then two options I can schedule a meeting and it goes on so the kids can sit in the waiting room but what I'm tired what I found is that they're logging in really early and just sitting in the waiting room so I usually Post-it ideal either and I don't want them sitting at their desks much before they need to be so I'm posting them at 8:15 so they can log in at 8:20 today I had to shut my computer down twice I think that I've had too many tabs open and it wouldn't load but 8:15 is the goal my concern is otherwise they're sitting at their computer at 8 and I want them to be not sitting at computer at 8. You know it's it's a long haul to get to 11 the other sorry and then one other thing about that that mr. laundry and I will need to adjust we've talked to the kids the way we planned our afternoon session is back to back so we have a 12:30 to 1 and a 1 to 1:30 so if it's a kids Panic that they're late when anyway we need to stagger that just a little bit someone give them a chance to maybe go to view the restroom or get a drink of water and that way if a class goes even a minute over it takes a minute to open a new tab create a new Zoo post it so truly that the 5 minute grace time in the afternoon it's it's hard to get much closer than that answer your question yeah I was just opening it and I just didn't want him to get in trouble well I'm sure I didn't know was he was he was in late no problem and I have to say that when we decided between Google meet and zoom one of the things that we do like Zoom is that it pops up so nice and big that there's somebody in the waiting room if it makes it so it's hard for us to to miss that somebody's waiting there did you know that several friends had to kind of try to read enter several times today I don't know if there was a weird thing going on in the internet world but you know that several had to rejoin about four or five times this afternoon so when that happens please let us know that we understand we're at the mercy of the internet being on our side go ahead and sure you can that you're always welcome to send me an email but if I can say to I'm noticing and again it's all just part of mrs. Fisher myself the kids getting you what what time is on the internet versus what the time is on my phone versus what the time is on my computer all seem to be different so where we built in buffer time to make sure that if the students clock says 8:50 and they are there but my clock says 8:13 and Google Classroom thinks it's at 12 the student is not going to be late when I can be penalizing anybody because their clock is more accurate than what we make sure that we give them about 5-10 minutes to get in before we take attendance we appreciate that the kids are taking seriously thank you but like the scripture said yeah we just we don't want them to sit there on their own for too long it's that's why we post them so close to the start time are any other questions I hope this time was helpful and didn't increase anybody is information overload sorry Mahogany's Mom hi all day last night she finished my 6 p.m. like I don't understand what she's having so much is that normal I'll let you answer first Miss Padre if you had something to add I don't know if I was interrupting you sorry go ahead what she's working on because we have been trying specifically to make sure assigning that level of extra work you know what she was working on no red ink no red ink specifically for that website one of the ways that they've created it is that it gives you a time on it and we'll tell you how much time to expect the activity will take it tells me so when I know it took one on the signing and I know how much it'll take but a loss that this activity should take you and the concrete noun activities that they had yesterday should have taken about 12 to 15 minutes however if it's the first time she logged in she was probably if I'm guessing choosing all the options that would would make the work particular to her so she was choosing and that's a one-time deal unless they want to go in and change it if they physically you don't tell me. all of your interest so that when I create a sentences for you to find these concrete noun it's going to generate sentences that are about things that you like but that's a one-time deal you know after she does all that it'll honestly take the about 10 minute time play it was that she was just having fun with it that was going to be my hope my questions Haven for anyone if your students are consistently working that late into the evening that's please let us know please let us know if we're using the time during the day right now they should hopefully be done with every I would think at the very latest but again everyone schedules are different it won't work in different paste just yes if that continues if anyone is noticing us know that's not what we're trying to set up kind of an open-ended project that the kids were working on for science we were talking about how to think like a scientist and they posed to the questions that they might wonder about and then they form the hypothesis and they were able to create the information kind of it anyway that they wanted some of them did a PowerPoint or a Google slides and they had pictures and all kinds of extra thing which is fine the assignment should have maybe 15 minutes but I could tell if they were presenting today some of them must have worked on it for several days so hopefully if she's working that late it's because she's having some fun and doing extra things on her own please let us know if it's if they are working that late cuz that's certainly nothing that were scheduling I got a question in chat about seeing mrs.
