hi everybody thanks for being here tonight everybody says welcome to fifth grade televisi hello and this is crime lots of familiar faces no fun yes if you're sitting is with you absolutely we love to say a quick hello if they happen to be there hi guys hi everybody Welcome to fifth grade I need to see everybody Alina World music you're welcome to unmute until we get started that way everybody can say hi a quick reminder that I am recording the meeting just so that I can post it for new families who aren't here just to let you know what has me concerned about that please let me know that they did ask us to record so we can share hi guys I know your faces yes welcome to fifth grade I was kind of my can't believe it lyrics Don't Blink savor every minute High to see you guys volume one door down it's going to be a great year you guys it's going to look different but I promised mr. laundry and I have so many great things planned all right I know we were a little bit well as a little bit and getting ready so we'll kind of dive in if you have any questions or anything use feel free to stay at the end will take some questions if you want to save anything for emails for later but for right now again welcome to fifth grade so let's go ahead and we're going to go through this will be posted online as well so if you want to take a look at any of this later but I will go ahead and turn it over to mrs. We thought we would start with the basics first of all know that we're so excited to see you guys I want to know it's so different than saving our classrooms after a week that we've already had a chance to get to know the kids but we're going to give you as much information as we thought was most relevant tonight and just know that so much more information will be coming so if you leave tonight with questions it's okay we purposely didn't want to cover absolutely everything you know anybody to fill over terrorist to start this week feeling just as excited as we are and I promise questions will get answered as the kind of rule out what this year looks like for those of you who are new to PVCs it's just as 4th grade Dad we doing a little bit different and fifth grade just your laundry and I chose are very very favorite subjects and Ela and science and math and social studies and it's a great said it works for us and we offer refer to my homeroom students 5A and mr. londres is 5D you'll see that when we start labeling things you'll see that differentiation just means that if your student is assigned to my homeroom often referred again suicide a duster laundry his homeroom students r5b but we will see all students right now because we're virtual see all students equal amount of time we'll talk about what schedules will look like when we get back to the classroom what it looks like then remind me using similar we're going to be using the same platform across all PVCs hopefully that will help for those parents and families who have multiple students were using Google Classroom I think that's probably familiar to most and all students and families Zoom is what we're doing at the moment although Google meet we reserve the right to change the Google meet as we're learning that they're adding and upgrading aspirin hours or fifth-grade zooming Mistral Andres you want to finish up the slides I can go from here we are going to be called Edgenuity if you're not familiar with it it was new for some of us it is a self-guided is on what season it feels on what the students to benefit from learning more about and it really individual license programs for them we're still learning ourselves a bit about how we're going to do things like that so that some of the information like mrs. Fisher said that will share with you later in the week but from what we've seen the videos we watched a really interesting way for the kids to work a little bit later about synchronous vs. asynchronous learning if you haven't heard that it's super popular digital thing for them to teacher going to be part of their day we have additional optional sites that will probably be using as well I have used extra mass for basic math facts in the past Fisher has used different readings grams were still as additional Edgenuity better as we will determine what will work this year will let you know but one other big thing to say before I ramble further fifth grade weekly rewind every Friday at 2:30 will start this Friday at 2:30 basically it'll just be a half an hour where you can come into the zoo meeting will give you an idea of what we've been doing will give you a call what time in the following week asking questions or if you just want to make sure that what your students are telling you is worth every Friday at 2:30 you invite all of you to should be able to record those well for some reason you can't make it alright to continue with our classroom Community correction will just put it out there in the Spirit of being honest I love love love to talk and I could probably keep this meeting going till midnight so when we're in our classroom mr. laundry and I when we're together we he's our time Monitor and you've learned that the play to do it is for me to start slides and then let him finish it up otherwise I probably talked for about an hour on just one flight will continue to do that I'll start it again if if we are going to fast when this is recorded and to feel please feel free this week to send any kind of emails that you might have were excited to share as much information as you are to learn it our classroom Community even if it's not online right now is really important I know we both worked really hard at planning tivities for the kids to reconnect with each other and with us so our classroom Community will be something that is Progressive at all it'll continue we do have rules that will extend throw at your house and at school and those three rules are very simple if being responsible being respectful and being safe obviously talk to the kids about what that means in regards to be online and what it looks like to be a virtue color that we do look forward to Nina making sure that we all feel connected as an education community and families at home some more on that to come what is the last thing Backpage if you are unfamiliar with class dojo there's a link on our website you can take a look good use this in the past for students to file for all students as a way of basically communicating with you at home letting you know your students you're doing really well and you know if we need to remind them to maybe she's a different digital space so where in the right to make that later but that's the plan for now and if you have your soup with you they probably help if you're not sure you can raise your hand in Zoo should I really like it so it seems. If I look like this they can actually put my stuff there Handa it's one thing that misses bacon and I have in common we both okay our goals while we have many many many goals we decided to put a few down here focus on for tonight Rolly Polly wanting the kids to grow academically that's kind of a given we have big plans and what we feel is constantly under some very creative aging plan to make sure they're growing academically but just as important as social emotional growth and were wanting and will be willing to address those needs and kind of merge those two goals together as we're embarking together on this new Journey time management will be just as important at home as it is in the classroom the extra component now is we're going to need your help with time management carefully laid out schedule we've done one that's very specific and has all the the catch phrases and definitions of what each time slot should be in to be used for Elsa have one that scale down to the basics and then some that are in between so if you walk away today not 100% sure of what you'd the day will look like I promise you we've got lots of different formats that explain very thoroughly what their day will look like we've worked very closely making sure that this time is spent for the best of there just to make sense we don't want the kids spending useless amount of time at the computer so I'm right I really feel strongly that create a schedule that will get the kids engaged excited learning and addressing just about every need that we possibly anticipate posted on our websites are supply list just as every year the supply list is suggested Edgenuity and it will share more about that in the weeks to come but Edgenuity will be our main learn platform since we'll be interactive what this program for all core subjects however working on the computer as fun as it is there is nothing that replaces that's especially at this stage of a pencil and colored pencil planning activities to get the kids up and out of their seats not only that but physically working off the computer with activities project even some note taking those pills are really important to stay sharp on so we've a suggested list and I I believe that your laundry correct me if I'm wrong where we've asked for 425 spiral notebook that way we don't have a bunch of loose papers floating around and anything they might need will be easily accessible in that notebook will discuss work Centaur go ahead please interrupt me if I'm going on too long so I was just very quickly and it is going to be interesting since most work will be online initially but we want to make sure you put that out there more than just because things are on sale know if we can if we can save you a few box that would be nice but again regardless it's all optional it is all optional old fines doesn't work for you writing utensil and paper will work fine to address organization issues a notebook might be strongly suggested I ticket pass it out to you but if you are at Target and Walmart they're on sale right now so it might be a good time again will be going over with the kids what workspaces could and should look like for them setting up to be successful Scholars in time if you're out shopping this week picking up those notebooks will be helpful working on we really am still in fifth grade of being responsible individual Progress Rail tracking really learning to take ownership of their learning in fifth grade is definitely one of our big balls so that might look a little different we've got a solute activities to help them continue Delana Edgenuity also it's very interactive both for parents and students to be able to monitor what work is due and keep them organized as best as possible now this is where as mrs. Fisher warned you I do get obnoxious it up in the time-space so I apologize in advance but there's like 14 slide so we're going to sorry I missed it works I'm terrible at okay we just want to make sure that your students more than anything are ready for middle school so that's everything is in service to be on this page this very quickly if you have not had a chance yet go to the Temecula Valley Charter School main page find our pages and subscribe to each one will be paid more information they're usually we do weekly newsletters we've done that in the past week now again we'll see how it works with online learning but that's where you official information should be coming from the Temecula Valley Charter School website or directly from us so please subscribe both to my page and the misses just need to get all of that information regardless of who your homeroom teacher is there's a lot this is what I mentioned earlier with the online school again I will be posting all of this so you can look back at it if you hear me or miss Fisher you spend with your student want to make sure we're building those relationships getting to know them and actually giving them some direct instruction that stinker construction that's when we're all together we don't get to go to the beach we're still working but the kids will not be in Zumba fast will be working independently and unless they need something enginuities that curriculum platform that we mention this is going to be a lot of the direct instruction yes they're still getting some from us in the synchronous time during a synchronous the beginning a lot of direct instructions from Edgenuity any videos this is great because Edgenuity and will provide them the material that they most need before we skip on I I I would feel as a parent that probably most of you have questions on so what is Edgenuity and we're purposely not going to we're not really going into that at all tonight we will be address interplay giving you that information we've been given a lot of tutorials we still have training that we're finishing up this week but I do promise you that everything that we have learned and experienced and work with Farmers out of this Christian it's absolutely rigorous it I think it's differentiated so that we can truly meet the Learners where they're at by adjusting assignment very interactive as well can I have the ability and will be online in what kids are doing well they're working and we can use the word interrupt we can work with them while they're working to offer support Oster instant question without them having to take a pause and open up an email to email us a question it's very interactive so if you go away tonight with lots of questions about what Chris kilham are we using just know that that information is I also know that if it's both going to meet the needs of every student but it's also very interactive it won't be them working all by themselves online we have ability to see what they're doing an offer feedback and support while they're working independently thank you said better than I was just a little bit of nerves yes just finishing up this very quickly hopefully you've already noticed we started inviting students to Google classroom all of your students should be able to go into their school email their TV CS email and see an invitation to join Google Classroom about four or five of you already have thank you once your student joins that's where they'll be saying links that you've been saying links to zoom meetings please make sure that they are connected also as soon as they are starting to invite you as parents and family as well we will use emails that we used to contact you before the ones that we have through the system so you should be getting an invitation connect as well as more for the kids if you're not familiar with disc is access websites this is the schedule mrs. Fisher mentioned earlier this is a simplified version of it your student should plan to be in class 20 is when we will take a 10 min the really will be opening the zoom meetings will be open our homeroom meetings about 8:15 in the morning so it's illuminate told you that you're in my homeroom I'll see you at 8:15 on Friday morning still be a zoom link on Google to meet me there I will take attendance at 8:20 from there we'll kind of roll into on a normal day if you're with me we'll start with massive and going to social studies if you would miss Fisher and her homeroom reading and then you'll go into science after break we switch it over at 9:50 you have to check in with get your Google Classroom resume teacher switch teacher we will be finished with direct instruction usually by about 11 a.m. we have a synchronous that's the Edgenuity set up from 11 to 11:45 you're also going to start seeing this is when specials classes will happen even talking Hauser for PE Mister Keeler for Performing Arts we're looking into the other specials as well but they'll be happening likely during this time lunch 11:45 to 12:30 can take lunch whenever you want that's why we're taking lunch and then finish your day in 45 teachers will be available via email during a synchronous instruction we may be pulling groups during a synchronous time we'll see how it goes we will also have a digital classroom meeting a direct Zoom meeting during our office hour which spectacle an hour and 15 minutes mrs. Fisher and I will each have our own from 12:30 to 1:45 if you have any who's popping students were family members at least three different ways one of them being definition one of them being student-friendly like what does it actually mean what will they be doing there during this time so please don't panic I promise we have it lots of options to the kind of be able to wrap your head around what the school day look like all of this will be posted exactly in a few different forms of ministration wanted us to discuss again students were hoping we'll be at their workspace wherever that is at home and ready to work by about 8:10 we'll open our meetings at 8:15 will take attendance at 8:20 think of H20 at what 8:15 is the initial bail out of the playground 20 is the party Valley you are not in your seat ready at 8:20 than you now obviously technical difficulties happen we know that we have them happen to us stupid is going to be marked absent if they are not in the meeting at 8:20 however in this is due to a technical difficulty if there's some problem please just let us know send us a quick email or contact us text us something like that they can watch a copy of the video later or record the meeting I can watch that meeting do whatever activities they need and if we hear from you combined with that big sister attended their their technical stuff happens the microphone died earlier is we get it just please let us know because Administration is asking us to be a little more particular with attendance this time so we can just help them understand the importance of being in the meeting watching videos has great questions to hear there. to participate as we're doing we'll share these digital class I'm sorry again I'm racing cuz it's almost 7:00 I want to make sure we're respecting your time stop me if I'm going too fast when you have any questions expectations are also going to be a little bit stricter than they were in the spring we're going to go through this with students on Friday so they're going to see a more interesting version of this will have a discussion as a class but we are asking please make sure you're wearing School appropriate clothes just because taking the time to get dressed for most people I think kind of helps them understand the importance of what we're doing we talked about arriving on time to make sure students are sitting up straight their work area and the things are organized and ready we're going to use our real names on our meeting in the spring had fun picking different kind of pretend but for this purpose has been all times parents if you have any songs about this or any questions again please let us know please let us know sincerely ask keep the microphone off until we call on them just like we're all doing right now they will be taught how to raise their resume if they don't already know and just again making sure they contact us if they need help when they need help but they're not chatting with other students words to keep it click quick is that if if you and your student haven't come up with a plan of a work space yet please Don't Panic or stress out no anxiety allowed on this I have activities we have activities planned to get students to really sing about what it means to have a good work space they're going to you know get to help Design This on what works best for them we'll talk about why it's a good a good fit so I can take a deep breath if you don't have all this planned out in your home yet it'll be something that will work on on together all right to schedule is a base to build from and Sacrament really going to spend a whole lot of time on this we talked about it when is Eid of homework it's kind of silly since he's at home right now maybe extra activities and things outside of the schedule that we're presenting they're going to post just like for school year when one person as teachers will best help the student but sometimes the student may find me little extra practice will be the same here as well what that's for again same thing even when we resume in person instruction and we start assigning homework it should never take more than 50 or 60 Minutes tonight even if it's pushing it you might see active reading this weekly writing things like that but again if your 5th grader is stressed out and ending to 3 hours on homework at home we need to communicate let us know classroom again please make sure check that if you haven't had a chance to have your students login to their emails and join classrooms dress code for right now just please make sure you're wearing school appropriate clothing a morning routine is getting will help set the kids up for Success just like it does for us as adults we're looking forward to a great year I know especially so if you have any questions please let us know I had someone ask to put the schedule up some of had a moment but before we take other questions just another reminder will help you Friday August 28th I'm sorry I guess what I'm doing one this week since it's going to be a short of week I misspoke earlier will see you next Friday the 28th at 2:30 for a first weekly rewind to go ahead and put the schedule up and help you with anything that's fairly quickly does anyone have any questions on anything but it's for parents and we do what you look back at the week give you some pointers in a brief idea of what is to come the following week we anticipate will be about a half an hour and I get a little bit tricky because we're not actually rewind starting from the beginning of the week but we will break it down for you to give you the Big Ideas overall what we worked on for the week it's a great time to ask question we will however report them as well so you can go back and and time that we do it each week is not necessarily fit in with your schedule I do also want to tell you that both mr. laundry and I are both take rate hide in teaching organization skills and the benefits of establishing a routine to help students feel successful and just want to assure you did we lose mrs. Fisher did we lose them can you hear us mrs. Fisher's I was a little slow to send a message Fishers class today so it does say that he was invited if he can check his email if there now I can't because he offered to send them to my students he's five times quicker at collecting email addresses and getting him out than I do so I'll just about that quick thank you for the classroom is ready there is nothing super excited except for a cute bitmoji so far we have put all information that you need us far more website and Google Classroom no is fortunately something at mr. laundry and I have used over the years we're both very comfortable and confident in in utilizing it to its full potential and we understand that it sounds like 4th grade use utilize it as well even prior to systems learn there's lots of ways to say connected Google classroom and will be a fantastic thing to note is that when students are or a students are accepting the invite parents are also able to be connected to the Google Play which we encourage regardless you'll be able to see samples of their work and you'll be involved you know as to what's going on as well as long as you have your students login information their email and saying you should be able to access it but we're going inviting you directly as well so there should be a few different ways to do that hey I'm here macula Valley Charter School homepage where would we go actually access your pages will enter what's your TVC ask if you go to academics and you click on that bar at the top and then like it'll pull up a different place cuz you're going to click on Elementary and then mr. laundry and mrs. Fisher you have to subscribe to both of our website Sochi VCS academics and then you'll be able to find elementary and then each of our name also because I don't know. Just show off I had linked it in the chat so if you have access to the group chat here in Zoom you can click on the links there as well exclamation is much better I'm sure a couple quick questions from the chat and I knows it some other folks had their hands up as well will we have to drop off or turn student work off in at school we don't have any plans for that right now all of the work should be done and shared digitally tell me if I'm wrong we're planning to collect and do everything to Julie for now right question will go with a question that Adonai roundabout are there any textbooks a material that I'll need to be picked up there won't be as textbooks per se that were that the kids will use but we are going to start a novel study I'm going to be starting a novel study with students I have to wear them already and I'd like to be able to be in the loop and ham students on up Jeffersons quick drive-thru they can access the books online but I'd love for them to have an actual copy there's nothing that replaces an actual copy of a book is be to work through it to do our novel study so aside from the books that we use novel studies there are no other textbooks that they'll need and again because I talked really fast through that day ideas that I'll hand when two students during designated times or leave them in a box outside of the office to pick up answered a couple the office and trying to see what that look like but that's so far the only thing that you would have to pick up yeah I mrs. Davis I promise everybody's worried about what what to expect we're in this together and make sure everybody's feeling confident and even two steps further in an excited for this year we are it is it's going to be new what's going to be different and they're going to be some bumps so we appreciate your patience but work cited were working hard with admin and with 4th grade which most of you remember 4th grade love 4th grade so we're working together and we're excited excited with how this you're going to go help anybody with anything else is anyone have any other questions aside from Thursday will it's been torn I'm sorry Wednesday will be spending a majority of the day and a further trading for Edgenuity I think both mr. laundry and I are both are are happy. We'll be on our computers and checking emails throughout the day so if something pops up in you you have a question please feel free to email us will get back to you quickly kids are done before 2:45 can their day be over this is one of the things we talked with admin about as well the short answer is going to be yes probably but that's where we as teachers come in also Edgenuity is going to invest a can to meet your students needs very attractive it feels off of what they do well some kids are going to work quickly and if they were quickly and with a high level of understanding Mastery will come in and we'll find some other project some other ways to challenge them to interested them to keep them learning and beyond that but that asynchronous time is going to be largely weak again created the schedule that we hope will provide some guidance depend a lot on your family what works for you can you Electrify some students may want to start later in the day after their parents are not know what works for your family so we'll all be kind of keep an eye on that and adjusting as we go is California the side to open the schools we have not Evan hasn't discussed that with this at length how quickly the kids will go back but I will say that is one of the big reasons they wanted this new curriculum they were excited about Edgenuity because if if the governor comes out on a Friday and says hey the counties are good we can go back to school to face-to-face again we could see erratically come back almost immediately because he has a curriculum that'll just roll right in the kids will just come back to class still have their own book still work there but will be in person to help them but that's just my guessing question to tell us anything about how the special look online and do you know anything about that yet I'll start in the muscle under you can add if I don't think full answer will be on hold until about October Performing Arts leave it to Mystic healer to explain what he has planned I do know that he's been working hard to plan we will visit or having Performing Arts with him so what they will be doing will be you know we'll leave it to him to just share he also from my understanding last it was talk up until right before back to school night students will be in their home room so I maximum students doing PE together with mrs. Hauser again once a week and it looks like mr. laundry was it 45 minutes that she anticipated doing PE with each class that sounds right I'd have two times that it's separate so they'll have just a but that looks like again mrs. Houser will have a full introduction and some examples of life she has plans Performing Arts science class with miss Lynn miss Lynn is going at the moment we are lucky enough to have her join us every other Friday to do Labs with students from however I have Labs that I created for virtual online learning that will be doing even without miss Lynn as well so jobs will be at least once a week and I will be sending out a long list of of items that you have to go by hey I will unfold that as we go but we'll be doing a lot of Hands-On for science to okay thank you in this land I'm sorry one more thing she'll be actually in the lab to be able to do on days that we meet does she'll be able to do examples and demonstrations and labs for us to be able to watch reactions and things like that from our school. Electrical someone asked about the asynchronous time we do that on her own time again that is large to your family our suggestion our recommendation would be if possible have the kids work during the sign times because that is when we will be most available to help them if they need something again we understand that this is a weird unprecedented times for everybody so if it is easier for the students come to the zoo meetings weight and Judy Edgenuity later in the day three or four in the afternoon that's up to you and your family we will be checking the following day though sometime in the morning probably after synchronous learning is done to make sure that students have finished the day's work if something is assigned on Monday if we're asking students to do certain assignments on Monday they can complete it pretty much anytime on Monday that works for you or your family as long as it's done Monday as usual if something happens technical difficulties just let us know and we'll work with you as best weekend trips I don't know I don't know if we do have filter I have to assume they probably would not be until the second semester but I haven't that's again this is me guessing I don't I don't know it's not something that I think we heard from you I've been on that I don't think so I don't think that Stevie CS we could braided a field trip under anything education-related I do have some Virtual Field Trips plans I know that's not even half as exciting but there've been a lot of opportunities created all this to explore some virtual field trips for any in-person one questions again sorry we don't John's right now a truth if we don't know the answer to let you know that we'll get back to you we can find the answer as it turns out we don't have all the answers I just like to pretend we do alright is there anything else that we can help you with any other questions otherwise I think this is so sure we've probably blabbed at them for quite long enough Timothy Jansen the chat thank you all again for joining us and giving us your time this evening if anything comes to mind if you have any questions email us let us know I'll be posting the slideshow in just a few minutes Google Classroom thanks everybody have a great night a week from Friday for a first fifth grade parent rewind alright thanks thank you
