February's SWAG

The Character Trait for February is FAIRNESS. 

TVCS students will be introduced and taught the following social skills this month:

Week 1-2: Waiting your turn 

Week 3-4: Sharing Attention with Others

Parents can practice and/or review these skills with their child at home and in the community. Here are the steps to:

 

 Waiting your turn

1) Sit or Stand Quietly

2) Keep your arms and legs still. Do not fidget.

3) Avoid Sighing, Whining, Begging

4) Engage in the activity when directed to do so by an adult

5) Thank the person who give you a turn

Sharing Attention with Others

1) Sit or stand quietly while sharing attention.

2) Avoid distracting behavior such as whining, laughing loudly, or complaining.

3) Wait until others pause before speaking or participating

4) Contribute to the discussion or activity appropriately.

When your child demonstrates the appropriate social skill for waiting and sharing attention with others, he/she is demonstrating fairness. Reward your child with positive praise (i.e. "good job", pat on the back, thumbs-up, etc.) when he/she demonstrates these skills.
